AAU President & CEO Jennings “Rusty” Buchanan is nominated as a finalist for Executive of the Year in the 2022 SPORTYS.

Orlando, Fla. (May 13, 2022) — The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is proud to announce that President & CEO Jennings “Rusty” Buchanan is nominated as a finalist in the 2022 SPORTYS: Greater Orlando’s Night of Champions presented by Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute.

The SPORTYS awards are run by the Greater Orlando Sports Commission (GO Sports) and honor sports business professionals whose contributions and impact are vital in making Greater Orlando one of the country’s premier sports destinations.

Buchanan is one of 10 Executive of the Year finalists for the 2022 SPORTYS, alongside executives from Orlando City SC, Orlando Magic, UCF Athletics, and more.

Buchanan is the 48th president of the AAU, and has been involved with the organization for more than 35 years. He began his AAU career competing as an athlete for a spot on the 1980 U.S. Olympic track and field team. After his competition days, Buchanan turned his focus to developing amateur sport event opportunities for youth participants across the state of Florida and the United States.

AAU has many programs that contribute to the growth of Greater Orlando — most notably, the AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships, which is the largest volleyball event in the world. In 2021, that event alone brought an estimated economic impact of $173.3 million to the region.

The SPORTYS award show will air on WKMG-TV News 6 and stream online on Saturday, June 25 at 7 p.m.

Good luck, “Rusty”!
