It was a busy weekend on the wrestling mats in Spearfish, South Dakota and Kingsport, Tennessee. On March 18 - 19 athletes competed in the AAU Wrestling Black Hills Folkstyle World Championships & the AAU Spring Youth Nationals.

Spearfish, S.D. & Kingsport, Tenn. (March 28, 2022) – A wild weekend of wrestling has concluded in Spearfish, South Dakota and Kingsport, Tennessee. The wrestling mats have been swept and mopped as the AAU Wrestling Black Hills Folkstyle World Championships and the AAU Spring Youth Nationals have come to a close.
 
The Donald E. Young Center at Black Hills State University played host to 856 wrestlers for the Black Hills Nationals. Wrestlers traveled from coast to coast to compete against some of the best competition. The tournament was divided into two sessions.
 
Session 1 was held on Friday, March 18 for the Masters, Seniors, High School, and Girls Divisions. Session 2 took place on Saturday, March 19 with the Tots, Midgets, Schoolboy, Bantams, and Novice divisions. Medals were given out for all competitors who finished 1st through 8th place in each division. One hundred eight (108) first place championships were earned.
 
Touch of Gold Wrestling Club earned the most total match points over the weekend with 455. Touch of Gold Wrestling Club also had the most total wins with 71, while Gregory Wrestling had the best winning percentage, going an undefeated 7 and 0.

Dobyns Bennett High School in Kingsport, Tennessee was the host of 330 competitors for the AAU Spring Youth Nationals on March 19. The tournament saw Tennessee’s Top 100 wrestlers and Grand Champions compete against some of the best wrestlers from around the country.
 
The boys divisions, was divided into tot, bantam, midget, junior, & Middle School. Girls were divided into K-2nd grade, 3-5 grade, and 6-8 grade. Sixty-six (66) first place championships were earned.
 
The North Georgia Spartans had an impressive 281 total match points, the most during the tournament. Representing Warrior Wrestling Club, Will Atkinson had a dominant weekend, picking up 57 total match points, 16 more match points than the next closest wrestler.
