RECAP: AAU Track and Field Indoor National Championships

The three-day tournament saw more than 1,700 athletes around the oval, representing 43 states from across the nation. 225 gold medals were awarded to AAU National Champions, and a whopping 113 meet records broken.

VIRIGINA BEACH, Vir. - AAU Track and Field capped their indoor season this past weekend out in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The three-day tournament saw more than 1,700 athletes around the oval, representing 43 states from across the nation.
 
Two hundred and twenty-five (225) gold medals were awarded to AAU National Champions, and 675 All-American honors were given to athletes placing in the top three spots for each event.
 
AAU Track and Field has a phenomenal performance weekend, highlighted by a whopping 113 meet records broken over the weekend. Our athletes have been training hard throughout the season, and we are so proud to see their accomplishments.
 
Record Breaks Highlights
Rieko Wilford from Alpha Speed Academy broke the meet record for the Girls 17-18 year old Triple Jump with a 12.17m (39’11.00”). The previous record was a 11.89m (39’0.5”).
Michael Onuzulike, unattached, extended the record for the 13 year old High Jump for Boys with a jump of 1.47m (4’10”). The previous record was a 1.42m (4’8”).
Reyna Johnson shattered the Girls 17-18 year old long jump record by almost a foot, jumping a 5.84m (19’2”). The previous record was 5.68m (18’7.5”).
Michael Herzog, unattached, broke the Boys 17-18 year old Long Jump record with a 7.16m (23’6”), besting the previous stat of 6.93m (22’9”).
Jamie Young from Lazers Track Club tossed a 11.71m (38’5”) in the Girls 15-16 year old Shot Put, breaking the previous record by three inches (10.90m, 35’9”).
Michail Rose from F.I.A. Ambassador Lions, topped the Boys 15-16 year old High Jump with a 1.93m (6’4”). The previous record was a 1.83m (6’0”).
Simone Bernard, unattached, squeaked by the previous record of 5.22m (17’1.5”) in the Girls 15-16 year old Long Jump, with a 5.23m (17’2”).
Will Trembley, unattached, surpassed the previous 17-18 year old Boys shot Put meet record with a 14.67m (48’1.75”). The previous record was 14.45m (47’5”).
Leslie Young from Lazers Track Club, shattered the record for the 17-18 year old girls Shot Put with a toss of 12.81m (42’0.5”), besting the previous of 10.39m (34’1”).
Arianna Montgomery, unattached, broke the record for the 13 year old Girls Long Jump with a 5.31m (17’5”). The previous record was 5.19m (17’.25”).
Kiaeem Thomas from Track 757 Track & Field Club crushed the Boys 17-18 year old High Jump, jumping a 2.03m (6’8”) and breaking the meet record of 1.91m (6’3”).
Sydney Billington, unattached, broke the meet record for the 17-18 year old Girls High Jump with a 1.68m (5’6”). The previous record was 1.57m (5’2”).
Brogan Giffin, XC Elite, shaved eight seconds off the meet record with a 4:02.09 in the Boys 17-18 year old 1500m. The previous record was 4:10.69.
Brooke Rauber destroyed the Girls 17-18 year old 1500, running a 4:31.11. 23 seconds fast than the previous meet record of 4:54.79.
Olivia Cieslak, Ford Flames TC, broke the meet record for the 14 year old Girls 1500m with a 4:54.77. The previous record was 4:55.08.
Aaron Keller, unattached, broke the meet record for the 14 year old Boys 1500m with a 4:23.46. The previous record was 4:39.02.
Kate Putman, South Tully, shattered the meet record for the 15-16 year old Girls 1500m with a 4:36.26. The previous record was 4:59.81.
Joseph Perazzo, Island Express, destroyed the meet record for the 15-16 year old Boys 1500m by nearly 20 seconds with a 4:02.31. The previous record was 4:23.09.
Iyndia Bey, Legion of Zoom Track Club, broke the meet record for the 13 year old Girls 1500m with a 4:57.32. The previous record was 5:01.45.
Nathan Cochran, River City Finish, reset the meet record for the 12 year old Boys 1500m Race Walk with a 11:29.84. The previous record was 12:31.87.
Nathaniel Samson, VO2 Max Track Club, shaved more than six minutes off the meet record for the 11 year old Boys 1500m Race Walk with a 10:08.63. The previous record was 16:10.33.
William Crowe, AMP Elite TC, reset the meet record for the 9 year old Boys 1500m Race Walk with a 11:18.04. The previous record was 11:35.48.
Brielle Hudson, New York Starz Track Club, broke the meet record for the Girls 9 year old High Jump with a jump of 1.22m (4’0”), resetting the previous record of 1.09m (3’7”).
Siena Jacobson, unattached, broke the Girls 15-16 year old Pole Vault meet record with a 3.048m (10’0”). The previous record was 2.29m (7’6”).
Kolyn Ogletree, Central CT Jaguars Track Club, broke the Boys 13 year old Triple Jump meet record with a 9.52m (31’3”). The previous record was 8.86m (29’1”).
Emma Rees, unattached, broke the Girls 12 year old High Jump meet record with a jump of 1.42m (4’8”). The previous record was 1.37m (4’6”).
Trace Calhoun, All-American Throwers, led the way for the Boys 11 year old Shot Put, breaking the meet record with a 11.37m (37’3.75”) toss. The previous record was m (35’3”).
Laila Jones, Tricity Relays of North Carolina, added six feet to the meet record for the Girls 11 year old Shot Put, tossing a m (38’7.5”). The previous record was 10.74m (32’3”).
Cailey Spanitz, Team VA, shattered the Girls 17-18 year old Pole Vault meet record by four feet with a vault of 3.68m (12’1”). The previous record was 2.59m (8’6”).
