ORLANDO, Fla. – The up-and-coming AAU sport of Pickleball hosted its 2019 AAU National Indoor Championships this past weekend at the Orlando Sports Center. The three-day event, August 23-25, pitted over 220 athletes against one another in their respective skill levels.

The festivities kicked off with a pre-tournament party and a “Play with a Pro” clinic, in which competitors had a chance to toss the ball with a professional player and learn tips on technique.
Divisions were separated by skill level in a double elimination bracket or round robin format. Winners were awarded medals for each age group within the skill level.

In the Pro division, Hendry Winarto and Tony Giannoni clenched the gold medal for the Men’s Doubles after an 11-4, 11-5 bout over Michael Donnellan and Joshua Elliot. For the Men’s Singles, Jack Foster had to tough it out through a three game set with Jonny Andrews before the gold medal match. He finally would rally to the gold with an 11-7 and 11-9 win.
