AAU Jump Rope
February Newsflash

•  The 2008 AAU Jump Rope Handbook is now available at www.aausports.org and click on Jump Rope.

•  The dates and location have been confirmed for the 2008 AAU West Coast Junior Olympic Games July 11-13 in Reno, NV. No pre-qualifying is required for this event. Log on to www.wcaaujrogames.org for more details. Entry fee will be $40 per athlete and spectator admission will be charged.

•  The 2008 AAU Junior Olympic Games will be held at the Rock Financial Showplace in Nov, near Detroit, MI, from July 29-August 2. Several other sports will also be contested at this venue. Pre-qualifying is required: see list of Qualifying Tournaments below. Non-US athletes should consult the Clinics and Tournaments link under Jump Rope at www.aausports.org. Entry fee will be $40 per athlete and spectator admission will be charged.

•  Registration for the AAU Junior Olympic Games will be handled online in 2008. See www.aaujrogames.org or more details as they become available. This site will also give you information about the schedule and the special rates negotiated for accommodations, or go to http://www.detroitsports.org/aauhousing/jumprope.php.

•  A new AAU Jump Rope Flyer has been developed and has been posted on the Jump Rope web site. You may make copies of this for distribution to team members and to new contacts you make at performances and workshops.

•  Dates for skills and judging workshops will be posted as we receive them at www.aausports.org and click on Jump Rope. Let Jean Hodges know about your planned workshops so that they can be posted. Remember all teams are obligated to provide officials on a ratio of 1 official to 4 athletes for competitions.

•  Sanctions for insurance coverage for an event or for your practice sessions can be arranged through the AAU. All coaches and participants must be AAU members and clubs must be registered as Level 2 clubs to apply online for a sanction

AAU RULE CHANGES FOR 2008

1. Age Divisions will change in singles only to:
8 and under, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13-14, 15-17 and 18-22
There will be no change in Pairs and Double Dutch
2. Triple Unders will replace Double Unders in 15-17 and 18-22
singles only (not pairs)
3. Medals will be given at the AAU Junior Olympic Games in the component events in addition to the Overall Triple Crown and Pentathlon.
4. Metal or plastic hair grips and bands are not allowed

5.

Head coverings may not be worn unless special permission is granted

In addition, there are some clarifications on matching uniforms and on penalties and procedures. You are encouraged to review the rules carefully in the 2008 Jump Rope Handbook.
