Shipley senior point guard Tamesha "Sox" Alexander recently signed her National Letter of Intent to play basketball for St. John's University.
A 5-6 point guard with strong ball handling and precise passing skills, Alexander is regarded as one of the top point guards in her class and is ranked No. 24 at her position by ESPN HoopGurlz.
The Philadelphia native has spent her high school career leading The Shipley School to three Friends League Championships and one Pennsylvania Independent Schools Tournament championship.
St. John's women's basketball head coach Joe Tartamella said, "Sox is an old school, savvy point guard that will bring depth to the point guard position. She is an exceptional change of speed guard that our fans will love to watch. Sox has been part of winning programs throughout her career and she is a winning player. We are very excited to add her to our program."
In her first three seasons at The Shipley School, Alexander has led the squad to a 63-22 overall record and started in every game but one. Considered a standout floor general, she has already passed the 1,000 point mark with 1,107 points in just three seasons and heads into her senior campaign just 183 points shy of setting the school's all-time scoring record for both boys and girls teams.
Alexander was recognized as an "exciting young player to watch," by ESPN's Lisa Bodine, who also noted that, "Alexander handles the ball and makes thread-the-needle passes moving at full speed."
Alexander is an all-around threat on the hardwood and has recorded 284 rebounds, 456 assists and 334 steals to go along with her scoring accolades. Her total-package play has earned her three selections to the All-Main Line first team and three nods to the All-Friends' Schools League First Team.
The versatile guard has played both her high school and AAU careers under Shipley girls' basketball head coach Sean Costello and led the Philadelphia Belles to several honors, including two-time Boo Williams Invitational Championships in 2009 and 2010 and three Mid-Atlantic Region Championships.
