AAU Girls Basketball National Championships Set to Tip Off in Derby City in 2017

AAU Girls Basketball National Championships Set to Tip Off in Derby City in 2017

ORLANDO, Florida (Nov. 7, 2016) — The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Basketball National Championships for 9th-11th grade girls will tip off in Louisville, Kentucky in July 2017, the organization announced today.

Joining forces with renowned girls’ basketball event operator Tucker Neale, Executive Director of OhioBasketball.com and owner of TFN Camps & Clinics, the AAU National Championships will be held in conjunction with TFN/NEB’s Run 4  Roses Basketball Tournament from July 5-8 at the Kentucky Exposition Center.  Neale is also the newly appointed girls’ basketball director in the Lake Erie AAU District.

The correlation of these two events will allow participating teams maximum exposure to attending college coaches and access to some of the fiercest competition in the country.

“Part of the overall strategy of AAU Girls Basketball is to partner with existing event operators to help grow and strengthen the event programming AAU offers throughout the United States,” said Matt Williams, 2nd Vice President of the AAU. “This relationship with Tucker Neale, Tom Insell, National Exposure Basketball and the city of Louisville brings our AAU Girls’ Basketball National Championships to a whole new level.”

Also taking place at the Kentucky Convention Center throughout the event will be the second annual “I Am Ali” festival, a 10-day arts and cultural celebration honoring the legacy of Louisville’s native son and global humanitarian Muhammad Ali.

Competing athletes will play an integral role in the 2017 festival, as competing athletes – along with their families – will be provided an unparalleled experience and the tools to make a difference within their own communities.

“The city of Louisville will embrace the participants, coaches and families with the ‘I Am Ali’ Festival and provide what could be one of the most unique opportunities in youth basketball,” Neale said.

Also announced today was the dates and locations of other AAU Girls’ Basketball National Championships across the country in 2017, including: 2nd/3rd grade (July 9-12), 4th grade (July 9-12), 8th grade (July 13-17) and Internationals (July 13-17) in Orlando; 5th grade (June 28-July 3) in Kings Island, Ohio; 6th grade (July 9-13) in Hampton, Virginia; and 7th grade (July 2-7) in Kingsport, Tennessee.
