The Field Hockey portion of the 2014 AAU Junior Olympic Games kicked off on July 30th at the University of Iowa! An intense pool play competition lasted for two days between eight teams. In Pool A, the Gold, Lime, Red and Royal teams faced off against each other, with the Red team taking the top spot. In Pool B, the Pink team came in first over its rivals, the Black, Navy and Teal teams.
Friday, August 1st marked the first day of finals. The Red team dominated the first game over Teal with a 6-2 win. Black, Pink, Navy, Teal and Lime all grabbed wins later that day. Red kicked off the last day of competition with another dominant win over the Royal team, 6-1, advancing them to the Gold Medal game later that afternoon. Pink scraped out a 5-4 win over Navy, giving them a ticket to the Gold Medal game against the Red team. The Black team beat the Gold team in 2-1 to give them the seventh and eighth place honors. Lime took the 5th place spot with a 5-2 victory over Teal (6th Place). In a close game between Royal and Navy, Royal walked away with the bronze medal, putting Navy in the fourth place spot. In the last game of the competition, the undefeated Red team took home the coveted gold medal in an intense 3-2 win over the Pink team, handing them their only loss in the competition.
