Former AAU Alumni Show Overwhelming Presence in NCAA Women’s Elite 8

For those of you following NCAA Women’s Elite Eight, you may be seeing quite a few familiar names and faces from AAU rosters over the years. Out of the 108 total participants from all eight teams, 98 are former AAU Members. AAU Accounts for a whopping 91% of the athletes competing.*3 of the participants were from another country.  Below is a breakdown by team.

By Team:

UCONN: 91% (10/11)

Texas A&M: 87% (13/15)

UNC: 100% (13/13)

Stanford: 88% (14/16)

Notre Dame: 92% (12/13)

Baylor: 92% (11/12)

Maryland: 93% (13/14)

Louisville: 86% (12/14)

Powerlifting for a Purpose

One of the most successful powerlifting athletes at the AAU Junior Olympic Games during the past few years has been Taylorville, Illinois teenager Karter Brachear.  A 17-year-old junior at Taylorville High School, Karter began doing the powerlifts at age 12 to get stronger for football and wrestling, and he set seven Illinois state records in his first meet nine months later.
