Inaugural Flag Football Tournament a Success

Inaugural Flag Football Tournament a Success

Land O’ Lakes, Florida hosted the first annual Grid Iron Girls West Coast Classic Flag Football Tournament, where six teams competed for the top spot. The Robinson Knights faced Seminole Ridge 12 Pack, two-time reigning FHSAA flag football champions, in the championship game. The Knights trailed 12-0 in the first half, and 18-7 in the second half. They came back to score 12 straight points, grabbing the game winning score when Robinson quarterback Deliah connected with sophomore Kayla Knowlton.

The final score in the game was 19-18 with the Robinson Knights claiming first place in the inaugural Grid Iron Girls West Coast Classic Flag Football Tournament.

Before the championship game was played, Bloomingdale defeated Newsome 25-0 to advance to the third place playoff game against Alonso.

Alonso was victorious, outscoring Bloomingdale 26-0 for the third place trophy.

Coaches that participated had great things to say about the tournament, including, "The experience for the girls is really invaluable to their development as individuals and as a team, and that experience shows its benefits in teams like Alonso, Robinson, and 12-Pac especially."

Another coach said, "We were so young this weekend, over half the girls we had playing had played JV last year, and we had 2 girls who are incoming freshmen. We learned how to lose a tight game, we learned how to win a tight overtime game, and unfortunately experienced what its like to lose in a lopsided fashion."
