Folkard strikes out 15,Chiefs take fastpitch title

Lake Buena Vista, FL-- Hill United Chiefs repeat as AAU Men's International Fastpitch champions Sunday afternoon at the ESPN Wide World of Sports.

It was a gorgeous day on the diamond as single-elimination, championship play kicked off at 9 a.m. At 11 a.m, two semi final match ups-- Hill United Chiefs vs Lancerso and New York Gremlins vs Team Minnesota-- kicked off on D12 and D13 to decide the championship lineup.

Hill United took an early lead in the top of the first inning with a home run by Nick Shields. Later in the fifth, the Chiefs would convert a crucial double play to get out of the inning. In the end, the Chiefs take it 2-0 over Lanceros and punched their ticket into the final.

Over on diamond 13, the Gremlins made a statement early-- driving in four runs in the second inning, including back to back home runs. Team Minnesota would get on the board with a home run in the fourth inning.  Three innings later, Gremlins would take the game 8-1.

And then there were two.

The reigning national champions, Hill United Chiefs, took to the diamond with the world's No. 1 pitcher Adam Folkard to face the New York Gremlins in the championship match up.

Juan Potolicchio (Gremlins) versus Adam Folkard (Chiefs) in the circle. Many speculated a pitching dual, and they were right. It wasn't until the sixth inning that the winning run was scored. Chiefs batter singled to left field and later stole second and third base. A play later, Potolicchio's wild pitch brought home the winning run for the Chiefs.

Chiefs' Folkard was the difference in the game. His lights-out pitching performance retired almost every batter he faced. In all, Folkard struck out 15 of 22 batters.

In the final inning, Chiefs add an insurance run and held on to take the title 2-0 over the New York Gremlins.
