Sharon Murphy from our AAU Missouri Valley District passed away Friday, March 1, 2013. Â Â
Sharon was the current Missouri Valley District Treasurer but has held all offices in the District.  She was heavily involved in our AAU Girls Basketball program and she was very instrumental in growing our Girls basketball program in Missouri Valley.  She has hosted several Girls’ Basketball Nationals in the Missouri Valley District.
Sharon Murphy has been a part of the Amateur Athletic Union of the United States, Inc., for many many years.Â
A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 8th at the Fort Osage Church, 19333 East USHighway 24, Independence, MO 64056. Â Sharon was born December 16th 1941 to Norman and Margaret (Morgan) Baker in Ava, MO. She graduated from Southwestern Missouri State. Sharon married Arthur Murphy and together they had two children. She worked for 25 years in the Social Security Administration. Sharon was a supporter of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), as well as Fort Osage Booster Club. She has received many awards including Volunteer of the Year. Sharon and her husband have made many trips across the country and internationally in support of AAU. She is loved will be surely missed.
Sharon is survived by her husband; son, Victor Murphy; daughter, Kelly Vaughn and husband Kenneth; grandchildren, Tyler Murphy, and Brooke Murphy all of Independence; grandchildren Aimee Vaughn of Oak Grove; Eve Vaughn of Blue Springs, and Taylor Vaughn of Independence; and two great grandchildren, London and L.J.Â
